Using some of the textures I've been making lately, quick colouring and quite rough, but I'm happy enough with it.

Redbull Stereopticon - Live Paint

I'll be doing some live painting this thursday in Edinburgh for Red Bull as part of their Stereopticon nights. The painting will be projected onto the McEwan Hall which should be pretty mad.

It will be on from 6.30pm-10.pm.

This is a quick test of a character on the background, (bad drawing) I created using a few different layers of paper. There's a bit of photoshop going on here and some scale issues, but in final illustration will be much busier content wise so I think it will be okay. Definitely going to explore this process further.

Been playing more with making rough backgrounds in real life instead of on the computer, will be a pain to scan in though, he he.

The background textures on this are an experiment to create a base to then add the linework and colour. Then I should be able to block in some areas and work more detail into the rest, will post up some pics when it's done.

The red and yellow one was a sketch from a small doodle, the letters are bad, but it was mainly to try out the style with a character mixing in. Been playing with layering up the acrylic bases before I lay down the watercolour and gouache on top.

Al Columbia interview

There's a great interview with Al Columbia over on InkStuds, I got Biologic Show from a bargain bin when I was younger and could never find any more of his work. The drawings looked quite innocent at first glance then they had this underlying eerieness seeping through, then it would be outright terror, but I couldn't stop looking.

The interview is nearly 2 hours long and gives quite an insight into the mysterious artist/musician/film maker.

Paint sketching

The last few days I started doing some larger paintings on paper, I never really have much room for big canvas's and always find it hard to start a big painting on them when I do, so I decided to try these giant sketches, so far they have worked okay. Recently finding a way to varnish the detailed gouache drawings has helped progress a little too.

This one is mostly acrylic, with a spraypaint sketch underneath.
