This book is illustrated by Kay Nielsen, who worked with Disney in the 1930's but don't hold that against him. It has quite a manga look to some of the drawings, but I think he must have been referencing old Japanese prints too. The style still is pretty modern, considering it was done 100 years ago, without Ipods or anything.

Repeat X Repeat Y

Matt Joyce & Loz Ives have put together a pretty good site called Repeat X Repeat Y of repeat patters 200x200 pixels in size to be downloadabled to yer machine. I made one too, using the satellite images I had created for Haunted Graffiti. I'm hoping to get a face one done pretty soon too. Have a look at ems!

There's been an interesting debate going on about restricting peoples broadband if they download music illegally, I haven't done it for ages, I usually just listen to it through something like Last FM, a radio station with no DJ and more importantly no adverts or crappy pop music, it's there if you want it, but you don't have to listen to the same playlists day in, day out.

Cover versions are killing music, the same way reboots are killing the film industry,

Whether it affects the music making process, is doubtful, it affects the money making process for sure, but people still make music, most musicians I know get by, they don't have limos or do tv ads, they just make tunes.
The music industry might be failing, but people will always make music as they have for thousands of years.

What worries me is that the policing of the downloads will become an invasion of privacy issue, where the checks won't just be on music or film, but personal emails and everything else. Not that your emails aren't already recorded, but this would mean it would be legally acceptable.

This was a picture I did a long time ago, but never finished, I painted out the background yesterday and just need to varnish it the night, haven't done much stuff like this in a long time so it was good to have a play. Need to get a new sander though it melted doing the edges of the box frames I make.

Procedural. Harmony

Been playing around with this Java drawing tool, with varied results, it's fun to play with none the less, I like that it's not super easy to control. the chrome effect is cool, I reckon it'd be good to paint these as pieces.

My mate Al, from Foundlight made this short film of his wanderings in New York, he manages to get a lot in. Check it oot. It's all shot on a 7D camera, which creates a really interesting effect with the lenses I think.
