East of the Sun and West of the Moon

This book is illustrated by Kay Nielsen, who worked with Disney in the 1930's but don't hold that against him. It has quite a manga look to some of the drawings, but I think he must have been referencing old Japanese prints too. The style still is pretty modern, considering it was done 100 years ago, without Ipods or anything.

It's a bit Aubrey Beardsley, a bit Edward Gorey.

Yep Graimito, hadn't thought about those too your right, maybe not as tweaked out as them though.
