Comic Test

This was just a play around in Flash to try do something like a comic, the buttons at the top control it, it was some old code that can move a movie around the X and Y via button clicks. I found some of the code on a forum and reworked it, you can download it here. It's a Flash CS3 file. With a bit of tinkering I made a version that can move the clip on the X and Y and also scale it. Have a wee look here.
I know you can do it now in HTML 5 and it's all exciting and whatnot, but I only learned Flash because the programmers I knew couldn't do what we were asking them to.

Found - Etiquette

I just saw this video from Found, it's 3 years old now but it's still barry.
More info here.
On a geekier note I made a small mobile compatible site (hopefully). I won't link it up until I know it works properly, maybe if you read this drivel you could have a look and give leave a comment as to whether or not it is viewable or not and if there are any glaring mistakes in it.

A year ago i made a tune for the Advanced Mechanic show called Planky Planky, today I sort of worked out how to recreate the process, but with a simple sequencer and not flash like the previous tune. It sounds very similar to what I made before, but I now have a bit more control over the sequencing.
I can't make music using real life so I have been enjoying making noises on the computer.

Odd thing happened on the way to the shops the other day.
This weather is messing folk up.

Space Agent

This was a brush pen drawing I did for the Advanced Mechanics show with Lyken,at Pageant last year, just coloured it up in photoshop a bit from the black and white version.
I've been slowly making a phone version of my site, more of an image sampler really, for folk that are all futuristic and stuff and only view things on tiny handheld devices.

Bit of a play about , I like how the buildings are all distorted, reckon this would work for painting better than digital.

Moebius Tumblr

Comic artist Ian McEwan aka Popjellyfish has been putting together a collection of Moebius images on a Tumblr, there's a load of good stuff there.

Why not check it oot here.

Cardbeard Gouache

This was an old marker pen drawing on cardboard that I reworked with acrylics, watercolour and gouache. It was good to try out the gouache on a really big scale, it works really good for outlines.
This will be on display at the Combat Calligraphy show in Liverpool, full details here.

The pieces from Bonus Aisle at Recoat are online now at their online store.
There's a whole load of artwork on there, all for £100 and under, if you can get through the snow, or do it the new-fashioned way online.

Digi inking

This was sorto an attempt at digital inking of this sketch. I used Manga Studio to do the outlines, it takes a bit of getting used to, recently with using gouache and acrylic on quite a small scale I think I got a bit rusty with my digital stuff.

Pain(t) and Ink. Mooch. Manchester

I'm in an exhibition starting today at Mooch in Manchester.
A new group show is opening tonight from 6pm with new work from myself, Richt, China Mike and Andy Prior aka DEAD.
It's on til the 20th of November and the folk involved have been rocking some madness from what I've saw. I wish I could have made the opening but with just getting back from Oz I can't get down.

Melbourne - Data loss

Click thumbs to view bigger images
My photos from Melbourne are actually pretty poor, mostly I was painting in the gallery and on the day I managed to get out and do some painting my batteries ran out, bonus. there is now a lightbox feature on here so you can view the photos above as a set without the pop-ups that usually happen. Geek ooooooot.
It was great to see the Everfresh studio, also cheers to Meggs for the tin o paint.
What I was pretty impressed with in Melbourne was how much folk get done, seemed like everywhere I went people were making great stuff, the first night I hung out with a friend of Ghostpatrol & Miso, who made animations called Tristan Jalleh, who made some bugged oot stuff. The second night i was invited to a leaving dinner for Timba Smits, graphic design machine who was heading away, hosted by his friends from Just Another Agency, along with the styling TwoOne and many more folks. I also ran into Drypnz there who was over to exhibit and paint at the Sweet Streets Festival.

It was quite a lot to take in, with so many folk having such high outputs it was pretty inspiring. Sutu (whom I mentioned below) explained his work rate of 16 hour days for weeks on end doing his comics and it was pretty mad, luckily he'd just finished a project so was able to hang out.

After the opening I had the chance to paint with one of my favourite Aussie writers, my camera broke that day so sadly have no photos.

I managed a fair bit in a week, mostly due to the Backwoods folks looking after me so well with Ghostpatrol and Miso showing me the sights.
All photos from the show are able to be viewed here.
