In trying to create work for the Recoat show I've been on a techno adventure playing with a lot of online apps and other geekery of science labs and more, but really to create the images I still have to rely on the hand drawn as a starting point, all of the shapes in the image above were originally hand drawn and then added vectors to a library to create a weird looking mecha robot. As you do. In turn, making the computer versions and then also trying to draw or paint with them as almost like a digital sketch have also created interesting results like the image below.

Haunted Graffiti - Recoat

-
Haunted Graffiti - Image above by Lyken
-
Lyken and myself have a show opening at Recoat on the 18th of September, both of us have painted together since the 90's, but never properly done a show together. We've tried out different styles of painting for this too, Lykend developed a layered abstract spaceship letter style and I've been tinkering with mechanical letters.
It's a bit of a departure from what I usually do, possibly closer to some of the lettering I do and my graphics work.
At the moment at Recoat, they have a show called Spin On This, dedicated a passion for cycling and they are also twa years old!

Neill Blomkamp District 9 Interview

-
I can't wait to see District 9, it's slowing becoming a scifi geek obsession, I think as a film director Neil Blomkamp is amazing, he's made a giant scale futuristic film for $30 million, a lot of Hollywood films couldn't even hire a main actor for that. The interview goes into how the film came about and has some minor spoilers.

Not really enough sprites in this, too many crazy Groundskeeper Wullies, reckon if I get my Flash draw on a bit more it could turn into an interesting animated screensaver/print. I like random Flash stuff, but my brain can't handle the programming, it'd be good to hook up with someone who could code creative ideas. Animation here

Rough/Cut

-
This is where I was at the other day with the wall in the Rough Cut show, still has a wee bit to go, but will done this evening. The idea was to only use a minimal amount of aerosol for the outlines and then fill in over it with emulsion with spraying through various things it creates a different effect, I definitely reckon I'll try this again, the key is getting the linework precise first.

Rough Cut Nation Time Lapse

-
Timelapse by Richie Cumming, Music by Tut Vu Vu
-
Rough Cut Nation is shaping up pretty good, everyone's been putting in crazy hours and working hard, I wish I could have hung out more, all the work is pretty different too, but somehow jigsaws together fine. It's been good not using as much spraypaint, pretty much just the outline on my piece is done in spraypaint and the rest is emulsion.
The good thing about how long it's taken is the chance to layer up pieces on top of each other, and also to learn the process's of other artists and the thinking behind their work.
It open's Friday night and there's still a bit to go, so maybe a late night tonight, but I reckon it should look nuts.

Ba Ba Ba Bounce

More text daftness, this is playing with Physics, you can tell I never passed it at school.
Created a letter battle, big letters vs wee letters, no one wins...
