Update.

-
Was doing some sketching for a painting for the show with Lyken and ended up spending half a day making a new holding page, possibly the reason why my site still isn't finished! It's giganto sized so you can't really see it all in one go.
-
Also check oot the Al Columbia interview on Inkstuds.
-
It's a bit early too, but have a Happy New Years, I'll be Tuborg'ed up so won't be near a computer til the new year.

Brush Pen Quick Yins

It takes a bit of getting used to but I'm well into the new Brush Pen. The drawings below are from the last 4 hours. With a little digital colouring on them. the sprayed backgrounds are done with an old fashioned diffusor spray, the kind that makes you dizzy! Some of the shading is done with toothbrush/inkbrush. Some of the highlights are done with Gel Pens and Poscas.

Twisted old Batman. Biro, ink.

Neon Test.

-
I have been trying to think of a way to make a Neon sign digitally for a while, still has a bit of work to make it look proper, the signs are actually quite basic in construction, bit it's the little details that make them. I'd like to make a big 3d moving sign as part of an animation hopefully. With Textures added and other elements it could look like below.

Sketch things.

-
-
I was pretty happy with the sketch of the girl on the left, the other is a little un-stylised. The title is like a reallly badly translated film poster, like if I tried to translate Japanese without knowing the the structure of the language, which I don't.

Diving Bell style suit. In Pilot BPS-GP (M) drawing coloured up on computer, the Pilot isn't as good as the Jimnie 1.0 RB-M100 Medium, that doesn't clog up at all. Check that for a bit of stationery geekery.

So here it is... Merry Xmas

So it's nearly wee fat baby Jesus's birthday, and some folk are going to be hitting the 'office doo', getting into the festive Spirits and abusing each other, verbally and physically. It's such a good time to give.
This one's for Iain, who had 2 of the 3 speech bubbles relayed to him last year, by an office mate.
-
On a more happy note, I asked my son what he was after for Xmas day from Santa and he replied 'crippies!'(crisps), so we splashed out and got a six pack of Quavers, he'll be overjoyed that morning, I'm sure.

Ooter Space Land

-
This is just a sketch of a screensaver idea I had, the full version will be available at the show at Pageant, along with a tune that Lyken made and a small platform computer game, which I will have made in 3 weeks, no pressure likes.
-
I was happy enough with the music effects, but the movement isn't too good, it's hard to work out with Flash if your doing too much or too little, but after a few watches you usually work it oot. The big ship needs more animation and I think that will have more detail and possibly some moonbase type stuff in the far distance with flashing lights.
-
My mate Techno Dave will be helping me out with some proper space sound effects, he's better at music than me, obviously because his name is Techno Dave.
-
Geek on. Best viewed in full screen.

Freedom OVA. (2006)

-
Katsuhiro Ôtomo designed the characters and Mechas in this short series (7 episodes), I'm at number 3 so far, it's 3d rendered but looks pretty close to Ôtomo's style, the bike designs are super good and the outfits are brilliant too.
The episodes are online someplace so get googlering. Official site.

Can't believe I hadn't heard of it sooner.

Advanced Mechanics - Pageant Show

-
With the help of recoat, myself and Lyken are putting together a show of some new space scifi stuff. I've been looking out intergalactical tractors and test piloting some moon vehicle sputnickens. Lyken has been producing beats that even will have ye jumping up onto a bed of chubby gnomes, or somethings.
-
I've also been trying to work out making some tshirts to go with this. All going to plan they'll be on sale opening night.
-
Lyken designed the flyer, I did the wee logo for Advanced Mechanics™, a giant mega-corp that makes spaceships and does biological research.

For when it comes!

-
A little something different, I've been working on some new ideas for the show with Lyken in January, it's a bit last minute, kindo, I'll post details soon. This was a sideline from one of those ideas, all drawn and animated in flash, I still have a bit to go I think, but it's quite enjoyable seeing the movement happen.
-
And when it does come have a great Chrimbo and New Yizzle!

Regis Loisel

-
I remember getting the first edition of the Peter Pan Regis Loisel had done in English, it was printed by a British company trying to put out BD books that later folded due to no interest. I was fascinated by the world that was being created, it was grubby often violent world, not like the fairy tale presented in the cartoon.
He was and still is a big influence on my style. This dude Harvey James is none too shabbers also.

I think his style reminds me of Bode and Moebius, which is a not a bad combo!
Also a new comic artist worth checking is Brandon Graham, his blog/site is pretty interesting, also his colour schemes are quite different too.

Pretty much these days I'm checking a lot of comics and animation stuff, being a visual addict, but looking at a lot of stuff makes me realise I don't draw enough, the possibility of making a comic with Ian Laurie in the future could hopefully sort that out, some drawing sessions lately have been pretty inspiring, but I think I need to step up my output a bit before I get started!

Sherwood Films

The last while I've been working a little with Sherwood Films, mainly in the hope I can actually make some short animations or titles, their new site should be online next week.

SecretWars Glasgow

-
Was through at the SecretWars Glasgow event the other night, after the Recoat Xmas Show, well done to them for pulling of another giganto yin, met some good folks, including Jenny Soep, who does amazing drawings and animations.
I have some more pics from the night I'll post up soon hopefully. My drawing is a bit wonky, think I need to get some practise in before the tour! The team was announced, kindo late on, I think it would have been good to have had Mr. Vibes as his style is quite different from everyone else, but the team is pretty good none the less.
The Victorian photo drawings by Ben Fist were thizlllllaaaaaaaiidddddiiieeeeeeees!

Walking Walking

-
This is the first interaction I've tried with one of my characters and the 3d environment, he walks a little squint and his arms look like cardboard, but I'm quite happy with it. A mix of Flash, After Effects and Sketchup.
-
I'm going through basic tutorials and watching a lot of documentaries, but it's still slow going, doing animation is like learning to draw all over, but a fun and rewarding process.

Ski-Lodger

Painted this a while back as part of a job for a snowboard event with Ruse, was good fun to paint a proper snow lodge scene, nearly verging on a santas grotto style, no points for guessing who sponsored it...
