Rough draft of a poster I've been working on for Burlesque dancer Sakura Tsui. Quite liked the colours, needs a bit more work before it's finished...

The Wrestler

Looks so good. Never thought I'd ever say that about an American wrestling film.

Mutate Britain

It's a bit late but I did a panel of an aircraft for the MUTATE BRITAIN show in London, which looks mental, I'll hopefully get down to check it out before it finishes.
Cheers to Mr Wreckage for the invite!

Recoat - Holiday Special

It's that time again!
Recoat are doing their annual Holiday special tomorrow night where every piece of work is £40 or under, it's a great way for folk to get some quality artwork for an affordable price.
If your in glasgow on Friday the 14th why don't you pop along to the west end and check the show.
I stole the flyer image from Ruefive. Cheers.

And Jesus Wept by Reg Meuross

The moon is slowly sinking
The final moon I'll see

My head is tired of thinking
There's just the rosary
An empty place at table
And my mother's eyes are wet

The hand of God came down last night

And Jesus wept
If I'd been a Captain

They would have sent me home

But I am just a Private

Condemned to die alone

The firing squad's been drinking
It's a dawn they won't forget

The hand of God came down last night

And Jesus wept
Sound the drum for their young precious years
But no glory will shine
On my poor mother's tears
A soldier's good for fighting
That's what my father said
And if a man's not fighting
He might as well be dead
Shame has drawn the curtains
And the neighbours won't forget

The hand of God came down last night
And Jesus wept
I got the shakes on Tuesday
I cannot go I said

They sent me down on Wednesday

By Thursday I was dead
I fought for King and Country

Two years without regret

The hand of God came down last night
And Jesus wept
We all fall in the cause of the free
When the sun sets on England
Will you think of me?
In unmarked graves in Flanders
Lie 300 boys and men
Killed, un-loved and frightened
By those they thought were friends
The nation's guilty secret is this generation's debt
The hand of God came down last night
And Jesus wept
The hand of God came down last night

And Jesus wept"
Whether Jesus wept or not is irrelevant, plenty other people wept.

Scottish Graffiti

There's been a wee update on, it has loads of pieces from the mid 80's 'til present from all over Scotland. The good thing is it's updated every few days so it's great to go back to.

Lazy bones

Not been doing too much blog drawing lately, just did this for a flyer, lots of layers, maybe a little burned out in bits and the pattern looks wonky, but was a rush job, so think it's nae bad leeks.

David Donnelly

Recently I've been working with musician David Donnelly a little with some graphics for his new album Future Analog, I never usually put much of my graphic stuff on here, so far I have only made a holding page for his site, but will be doing more soon. his myspace has some of his songs on and the site should have a lot of his other songs he's made too.

little update

Once again added a new holding page to my site, nearly had the design sorted and changed it a little once again. I think it's a bit more sorted in my head at least now.
Time is always an issue, been trying to squeeze in as much painting as possible and have avoided the computer a little, but the winter is looming so maybe get it done then!

Tried to make some letters that resembled fish, to go along with Pure and Lyken. Sorto went a bit Robert Williams on it a little, layered it up a bunch and done some over painting on the computer. Quite happy with the result, just need to paint it now!

Cans 2 Sketch

Click for full image
This was the drawing from the wall that I painted with Rue5 last week in London. Here's how it turned out. The background ended up taking a day so I think it wasn't as detailed as I'd have liked, had a good time though.
More flicks here.

The Floating Dead

Click for full image
Been working on a new zine for Analogue, which should be hopefully ready for the Zine Festival in Bristol. I can't remember what it's called or I would post a link. The drawing above was trying to draw ghosts, but it was hard to get the slumped body to float.
More rubbish soon.

This is a detail of a poster rough I did, it still needs some work so may post the full thing later.

More spaceman

Trying to draw some space suit stuff, found some great reference material. Was trying to get a kindo 50's feel to the line, but I always add too much, the dudes in the 50's knew exactly when to stop and nip out for cocktails.

Stormy Monday

The Insurance Company

Dunno where he is now, maybe floating round the cosmos to be reborn in the stars or some crazy stuff.
Scientology aside, he made great music and was hilarious on South Park before Tom got upset about being in the closet and forced him to quit.

Recoat Gallery's 12th show opens Saturday 16th August, which should be a topper, there's a big list of folk who are involved up above, helping them curate is Bothan Spynet, who writes over at SLAMXHYPE, a man with more shoes than Imelda Marcos, and a pretty mad art collection too.
The night before Stef Plaetz, SheOne, Otwo, Lyken, Rekor and myself will be doing a spot of painting at the gallery so come along and get merry and check out some painting.

Michael Arias interview

Short interview on how the Tekkon Kinkreet anime came to be with Micahael Arias, I love the film so thought it was a good read, click here to check it. It's interesting to see how so many things other than the actual animation effect how a film is produced.
Also check Studio 4's website for info on more films they produced.

This was my Batman version, messed up the left leg but couldn't seem to fix it. Oh well. Quite happy with the colouring, going to try more in this style, maybe not quite so dark. I thought the new Batman film was pretty good, wasn't as good as Hellboy 2.

Ron Cobb

This image could have been drawn today, but was first published in 1968, his friends thought it was a bit extreme, even silly, how wrong they were. You can see more of his political cartoons here but also check his site, it has some of his concept work for films like Back to the Future.

Walk Cycle Test 2

This was today's attempt at a walk cycle, pretty lazy, only 4 frames and it looks like he's maybe going backwards, but it was good to do something in colour. I liked the bobby head. Going to try some type next I reckon.

Run to the Hills!

A slightly cruder animation than fridays, but quicker, this is only 4 drawings repeated, the poses completely referenced from Richard Williams book 'The Animators Survival Kit', he was the head animator on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Hopefully from reading tht book I'll be able to put up a walkcycle of one of my characters, but that might take a while to get to look good. Although the drawings below only took 10 mins, it's fun to see them move.

Sleepy head test.

This animation is 30 frames drawn individually and then repeated to make it loop.
Took 4 and a half hours, seemed quite quick at the start, but it never is.
Hopefully will be doing some more stuff like this, just need to get quicker!

Analogue Update!

Those book vending good folks of Edinburgh, Analogue have updated their website, so it's now incredibly functional-fresh! Go and have a look and maybe get yersel some goodness.
Also while we're at the bookshops, I helped make a site for Amble Gallery and Bookstore in Philadelphia, it's not fully operational, but check oot the exhibition pics they're super good.

A place for...

Myspace geekerooonies
Updated on the Myspace, sort of a rough sketch of what I'm trying to do for my website, but without the function. Myspace is the only one of of the 'networking' sites I could get my head round, some people have a Bebo,Facebook and more, I can barely keep up with emails so they must be super organised!

Black & White

Finally got the manga Black&White by Taiyo Matsumoto that was made into Tekkon Kinkreet which I thought was one of the best anime's I've seen since Akira. I started reading it a bit, but decided to have a doodle of the two dudes, Black and his little brother White. Took a bit of tinkering and wasn't too happy with the background.
Still working on completing some drawings so will post more soon.

Meant to post this ages ago, I did a spread Mjar's second Hooked Zine last which is above (click for bigger), it has a whole load of folk in it Lister, mjar, Muju, Twiy, Showchicken, 45RPM, Mudwig Dans, Miss Lotion, Jet-Pac, KMR, Mute-Id and Dist.

It's still available over here.

Also I changed the blog a little, part of a slow overhaul which hopefully should move to the website in a few weeks.

Wish implosion

Been trying to catch up with drawing so really got into a session today, this one was a bit of a weird one, it's a drunk man falling into a wall of wishes, like the one's in japan, where you write your wish down on a piece of wood and hang it up. I don't know what effect his boozed up stumble will have on these folks wishes.
He does have some mighty bad slip on shoes though, check them oot!
Hopefully can post some more of the sketches I've been doing once they are a bit more refined.

Sketch of falling/floating

Slow process of falling, needs a lot of work, to make it look like something is actually happening, like maybe hair, plus loads of thhings really, hopefully will have more soon.

Creating Worlds with Paul Pope / Orgesticulanismus

Found this talk by Paul Pope the other day, it's quite interesting, it's segmented between Peter Franfurt a designer for Imaginary Forces, who did the titles on Seven and Danny Yount who also does film and tv titles.

Whilst looking for something else I found a link to Orgesticulanismus, a film made by Mathieu Labaye, as a tribute to his dad who got multiple sclerosis at 29 years old. It starts out a little slow, but the subtitles help, and by halfway through it's the best. It's pretty much how I'd like to draw when I grow up, each frame in that last sequence is genius.

Favourite Super Hero

As far as comic book heroes go, I think Wolverine is my favourite, I could say I liked an obscure one but I'd be lying. The only other comic book person I remember as a kid was Rogue Trooper. After aged 13 I got into Crisis and Heavy Metal, so super heroes just seemed a bit boring after seeing European comics.
Check out this guys Wolverine Daily Blog, that's a whole lot of Bub.

Action test

Been trying to get movement for ages, so been reading a Manga about Karate, so far it hasn't made much sense, 40 episodes in, but the fight scenes are good for seeing the movement. I think also the next few drawings I do, I'll put some backgrounds in too.
