Moebius - Out of Body

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Jean Giraud aka Moebius talking about out of body experiences and taking magic mushrooms.
I just got a bunch of his old comics, the attention to detail is crazy.

Creating Worlds with Paul Pope / Orgesticulanismus

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Found this talk by Paul Pope the other day, it's quite interesting, it's segmented between Peter Franfurt a designer for Imaginary Forces, who did the titles on Seven and Danny Yount who also does film and tv titles.

Whilst looking for something else I found a link to Orgesticulanismus, a film made by Mathieu Labaye, as a tribute to his dad who got multiple sclerosis at 29 years old. It starts out a little slow, but the subtitles help, and by halfway through it's the best. It's pretty much how I'd like to draw when I grow up, each frame in that last sequence is genius.

Favourite Super Hero

As far as comic book heroes go, I think Wolverine is my favourite, I could say I liked an obscure one but I'd be lying. The only other comic book person I remember as a kid was Rogue Trooper. After aged 13 I got into Crisis and Heavy Metal, so super heroes just seemed a bit boring after seeing European comics.
Check out this guys Wolverine Daily Blog, that's a whole lot of Bub.

Action test

Been trying to get movement for ages, so been reading a Manga about Karate, so far it hasn't made much sense, 40 episodes in, but the fight scenes are good for seeing the movement. I think also the next few drawings I do, I'll put some backgrounds in too.

Ian Laurie's Capitano

Thursday, May 15, 2008

This is a drawing I got from Ian Laurie, the comic book artist, who draws Black Cape, I met him the other night at the Gary Erskine talk the other week, it's mad that Gary Erskine draws Dan Dare and Iron Man, to name a few and is from Glasgow, that's pretty great. I would have liked to have seen the Frank Quietly talk too but missed that one.

As I've been checking a lot of comics lately and speaking with Ian, there is a chance of hopefully making a small comic zine together with some other folks. Should be bonus.

Ooodles of Doodles

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Been trying to do some more drawing again, sort of slackened off there for a little, so did these drawings today, mixed with some computer colouring ontop of the inkwork. I did the first one a while back.
The final outcome of the drawings wasn't great but some of the methods were good to try out.

Blackcape drawing

cmon getsome!

Should've posted this last week, but did a fanart drawing for Blackcape, the image above was the sketch, but inked it with a dip pen in the end. They also passed issue 50 of the comic too, busting out more sickness which is good.

Hopefully will have access to the akaelph site tomorrow so I can fix all the busted flash geekery.
More nonsense soon. Also will be posting out the zines this week too. Cheers to everyone who got them.
